Watermelon treat

The chickens love watermelon, especially when in a heat wave! I gave them some whole slices earlier last week when the temperature was in the high 90s and everyone enjoyed the summer treat.

  

Nanny Crooked Toe

One of the grey Ameraucanas, Lilac (aka Crooked Toe) has taken up nanny duty for the chicks, helping out when the younger chick toddles around and can’t quite keep up with older chick. I first noticed her standing over the black chick when it couldn’t quite make the jump back into the coop door, and since then, she’s helped both chicks forage, snag treats, and get water.
